Bad News about Lahore Mass Transit System

At last Mr. Shahbaz Sharif Govenment finally abondon this wonderful project by ignoring the T.A Assistance the T.A Loan offer from ADB whic was $6 million ......... The bank is now going to shift this money to other country's projects ........... very sad .............

Mr Sharif when stuck against something ........... he will abolish it ........... without reconsidering or looking into the importance of any project .......... Very sad ....... keep it up ........ Ya he got a good job of demolition .............. I dont know where in the world the constructed buildings are demolished ........... when they are constructed no matter legal or illegal ...........

sad indeed but your rants about legal or illegal buildings being demolished is well a rant and holds no merit, probably because you do not have experience with countries where the rule of law reigns supreme. hence if some thing is illegal then it is just that and will be tackled according to the law. that's why people get paid ridiculous law suit amounts and that is precisely why illegal buildings get demolished, no shame in that.
but as i said, the mass transit system is surely a loss :)

well i agree with the above comment..illegal constructions should be demolished ..perhaps this step will teach lesson to our people who think that anything can be done in this city without undergoing its legal formalities...as far as the project of mass transit is concerned , though it is sad news but also keep in mind that punjab govt is already undergoing an overdraft of heavy amount, and also many mega projects(like LRR) that are more necessary than mass transit are already under process with a good pace..so it was not possible for the govt to start this project by taking loan..perhaps some time will come when our govt will have enough money itself to start this project..lets hope for the best and pray for the current mega projects to complete soon

@momers .......... u can't say that this is a rant ........ It is my view and yes you are right when its the matter of law.... but where was that bull shit L.D.A at that time when these buildings were constructed ........ ok now when they are constructed than lets find a way to make their existence legal. Yaaaa ....... we are a country who kills historical building just for the sake of own interests ......... so what these new buildings are ....... Its more political ....... So in my point of view not always demolition is the final way out .....

Mohsin ........... ya u r right law is always first but we should not deny the ignorance of law abiding agencies who let these buildings erected and utter no voice at that time ....... So what is the need of the hour is what has been done, what has been contracted, lets not just immediately demolish or cancel it....... We need to change this as it hurts the confidence of foreign investor ....... who has spent such a huge amount to build this .... who can ensure that after this Shahbaz Sharif government these rule of law persists ........ no no body so either we need to find a way of strict regulations which should be a constitutional binding or otherwise need to find an intermediate way to solve this all .. not just simply starts destroying or eliminating things ...... Ya u may be right that financial crisis could be the reason of this government abondoning this project ........ but why always project of public interests suffer blow not the project of political interests ....????

Sir you talked about where LDA was during the time when the illegal construction started. do u know that 30+ senior officers of LDA are sacked in last 3 months? and 7 officers have been arrested. and why do u blame the govt for demolishing these buildings? this was the order of supereme court. we always shout for free judiciary .but when our judiciary gives some harsh but legal decision that directly affects our people , then we start blaming everything. ok lets think for a moment that wht else could have been done other than demolishing those buildings...heavy fines on the builders? for ur info, the PCO judges fined all those builders for these illegal construction last year. but none of the builders payed that fine. so this was the last step that they truly deserved .
we should not blame only govt in each and every case! its us the nation who has to build this country and put it on the right path! rules are meant to be obeyed !

Mohsin ..... Indeed with all the details you provide that leads to the demolition of these structures, I agree than this would only be the solution.

But do you know a similar kind of structure is being built in Liberty Market, which is the New Parking Plaza, opposite to big city to cater to the growing parking problems. Construction on this building is going on with the consent of Mr. Sharif. I don't think that this is the legal place to build this building.
What you say about that.....
So if its being built on an illegal place, than all this is going on is just political rivalry and nothing else.

What about Mubarak Center, it was not an illegal building. It was going to be constructed considering all rules and regulations. Than why it was asked to stop this building .... Just because all this was having shares of PML-Q. Im not in favor of any party but will not hesitate to speak the truth ........

What argument is there for the plaza being illegal? Just wanted to know what info you are basing your comment on?

Apart from that, if the parking plaza was approved for 5 floors then if they go beyond five floors and build more floors i will call it illegal but not before they violate their approved plans.

But other than that, do the land use and zoning requirements ban such a structure at the place where the plaza is being built? Any documentary record/proof of that.
I dont know the answer thats why if you can share info on that. Because if it is illegal then the current govt should be condemned for it.

Mubarak Center, i thought was a joke all along. In a city where yu dont have Bijli/power, no adequate sewage or the means for it, a provincial govt running an over draft and in debt, no local expertise in building high rises as high as 80 storeys and with not much foreign businesses coming in, I wonder what use that monstrous building would have been put to. Would it pay back? I dont know. it was a shady local company Taavun setup by the then govt. on land of the Sufi Soap and Oil manufacturers, which the former CM and his son got extorted out of the Sufi group of companies. If you visit the site you will see only 3 houses next to that deep dig where the center was being built. those houses belong to the Sufi walas. This is public knowledge, i dont claim to be the source of that info.
but that's another debate all together!

There is no need to give documentary proof for that parking plaza and that is for sure it is not a legal place for any building. Liberty square is the main point in the main boulevard and I don't thing constructing any structure just very near to the road is legal. This plaza is almost approaching the main road.

As far as Mubarak Center is cncerened, it was actually the investment by Abu Dhabi group and for such a huge project they cannot rely on Wapda for electricity. So they gonna have there own power generation system. The guy who is building this tower is going to bring all the investment also. My friends are working in Dhabi group, he is the big shot, Mr. Mubarak al Nahyan, U.A.E minister, who is the owner of same entities in Pakistan, and I think you must be aware of his businesses here. And by the way when people can by damn expensive properties in the poor country's paradide whihc is D.H.A .... than I can bet they can buy in this building also ..... You don't really know that in this poor country how many rich lives .......... Ya this story was there that land was of Sufi group and grabbed from them .... In this case this is another story ........which may be the reason for this project abondoning ........

i dont know why u consider the construction of Parking plaza at such a bzy road to be illegal! the reason that you posted in ur previous comment is not a technical one! its a complete legal structure being constructed at legal place approved by LDA ! it will have total 7 stories! 5 for parking and 2 for shopping mall and hotel!
as far as Mubarak center is concerned ,its to inform u that the authorities and owners of private flying clubs at walton airport had entered a case in lahore high court against the construction of this high rise! and high court has stopped the construction of plaza! the authorities of walton airport had a concern that this high rise was coming in their way of runway! so the govt should first move the runway from its original location to a new location ! otherwise it would be a big risk for the pilots to land at current runway if this high rise gets completed!

and i also agree with momers, the govt is already undergoing a big overdraft due to the policies of previous govt! 10 billion RS were paid to Punjab bank by the punjab govt because state bank ordered it to pay otherwise that bank was going to be bankrupted ! and we all know that who was involved along with himesh khan in this big fraud of 10 billion RS!

Mohsin .... with all your reason and explainations .... I think than what is going is right ........ but all what you have mentioned, there is no discussion about it in media, like never heard about this Mubarak Center being an hurdle for flying club ..... etc. So, by the way thanks for providing all these information .... as they let me have an idea about the other side of the picture .....

Asim Kaleem said...

So Mohsin ............. What you say about recent controversy of Rana Sana ulla's plaza on Fane Road .... which is indeed illegal ...... so I think you are quite one sided in your views about the demolition of the plazas and what I think it's all political rivalry ......... as most of thees plazas owners were supporters of previous government ......... so better get further information as think if you buy a shop in one such of a plaza and later this happens ......... think as an expatriate Pakistani ......... who just have invested his hard earned money in such plazas with a view to make his livelihood .......... very ironic ....
